I began writing poetry early in my walk with God. I have found it to be the best and sometimes the only way to express what God has made real in my heart. All of these poems are gifts from Heaven to me. Writing them and even re-reading them myself has blessed me beyond measure. I now pass the gift on to you. May you be touched and changed.

Voices

The voice of temptation is calling
Presenting sin in such guise.
Before I know it I’m falling,
If I listen and thus be unwise.

The voice of condemnation then screams:
“You fool, you’ve done it again!
Dashing your hopes and your dreams
And turning from God to your sin.”

Now comes the voice of self-pity,
Telling me how wretched I am
And that my nature’s not pretty
And I’ll never get out of this jam.

Then a voice comes that seems kind,
Saying, “There’s nothing to fear.
There’s no need losing one’s mind.
It’s ok ‘cause cheap grace is here.”

All of these voices are lying,
Appealing to self and to pride.
Leaving me desperately trying,
Struggling and wanting to hide.

But lost in the din is one voice
That’s ever so still and so small.
But if God’s will is my choice,
I’ll repent and then heed His call.
